Ruth Roman was born on June 22nd, 1939, on June 22, 1939 in Lynn Massachusetts. The actress is the youngest child of Lithuanian Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold & Abraham Roman. The young woman was just a child when her father, who worked as an carnival barker, died. Her mother had to take on jobs such as waitressing and cleaning. Ruth was born in the poorest neighborhood in Boston Massachusetts where she enrolled in school. She left the institution she was in just two years later in pursuit of acting as a profession. There were many hurdles to overcome on the path she chose to pursue. Then, in New York she was hired to take photos for a magazine about crime, but no theatrical job opportunities came up. The following job she got was an "hat check" woman at a nightclub but she quit and relocated to Boston. There, she made the ends meet by working by working as an usher during the day while working at night with the New England Repertory Company, her first steady acting job. She took classes in drama in The Bishop-Lee Theatre School and graduated.
